A teenage member of our library, Ayansh (name changed for the sake of anonymity) revealed why he feels one must read, providing an interesting insight into a teenager's mind. A parent wants their child to read for its benefits in terms of knowledge, vocabulary, growth, and development, however, let's dive into a teenager's point of view now.
Suspense - Ayansh tells us that he likes it when a story builds and gets so intense that one can't put the book down, it keeps the reader intrigued and entertained. He talked about Maze Runner, Artemis Fowl, Alex Rider, and Wings of fire as some of his absolute favorites.
Choice - Ayansh, being a history buff loves reading about the history of different places, people, and civilizations. His want to know more, incites him to choose books related to history.
Keeps one engaged - Though Ayansh loves to step out, and toss the ball around, he often finds himself alone in the park with all his friends keeping busy. In such a situation he prefers curling up with a book rather than lazying around, as it keeps him engaged and entertained.
A cure to boredom - He also talks about how he picked up a book, because he was bored of lazying around and before he knew it, he was hooked!
Stillness and Concentration - Moms complaining about how today's generation can't sit still and how their concentration span is less than that of a goldfish, is a household story and Ayansh says he's no stranger to this. However, he finds himself concentrating and sitting in one place while reading, something most children are able to achieve only while consuming social media.
Popularity - Reading abundantly comes with its set of perks! Books make one worldly in the best sense of the word. Ayah says there's never a dull moment around him for he can talk about everything under the sun due to his books, making him confident and popular.
Conversations - The hallmark of a great education received is the ability to maintain a conversation with everyone you meet - a skill that comes in handy even in one's professional life. Ayash says how he's able to do so because of his books!
The single most wanted thing that humans so dearly enjoy is the ability to dive into someone else's mind, to step into someone's shoes, and what better way to do so than books!
